21 June 2024
It is hard to know where to begin when the last fortnight has been so incredibly eventful. From accompanying our Year 6s, who visited Parliament House, through to donning red, white and blue to reenact the storming the Bastille (aka Da Costa Dining Hall) ahead of Fête Nationale Française, there has been little time to pause and reflect on what has happened in between.
JSFoS Quiz Night
On Saturday night, the Junior School Friends of Saints hosted a Quiz night with some 90 parents, friends and staff member in attendance. I would like to thank Donna Borema, and the committee who transformed the Function Space into an arena of intellectual competition.
Thank you to those who generously donated to our silent auction. These gifts are truly appreciated as funds raised will be put toward the School’s Outdoor education facility at Finnis as part of our Annual Giving Appeal.
To all who attended, dressed in togas reminiscent of ancient Greece to tracksuits adorned with national flags, costumes radiated Olympic spirit. Whether attendees channeled the vibe of the Sydney 2000 Volunteers, Norwegian Curlers or Australian Breakdancers, all demonstrated a commitment to community. Thank you!
On Sunday morning, 15 of our Chinese language learners, invited by the Department of the Premier and Cabinet, performed for Chinese Premier Li Qiang. Singing a song about the famous Chinese panda He Hua followed by tongue twister about pandas. The students closed their performance by telling the Premier about how much they love Wang Wang and Fu Ni. Via a translator, Premier Li told the boys it was time for these beloved pandas to head back to China, but they could be excited about two younger pandas coming to replace them. Thanks to Shelby Baker for her preparing the students for their performance to the the Department of the Premier and Cabinet for the invitation.
Reflecting on everything else that has happened in between—Colour Your Threads Casual Clothes Day, IPSHA Poetry Competition Finals, Wellbeing Week, chess practice, cross-country trials, Battle of the Bands competition—this is what it means to be part of an exceptional learning community.
Enjoy the weekend ahead.
Kind regards,
Jasmine Taylor
